Key information about Content Groups in CampaignDrive.
Introduction to Content Groups
Content Groups are a content management tool that allow system administrators to restrict the selectable images of an image layer to a specified set. Content groups are created from images that already exist in the Media Library. New Content Groups are created at the template level in the Compose environment. After creation, the Content Group is available to other templates under the same Brand as well.
Key Points About Content Groups
- Content Groups ONLY apply to images
- Content Groups are not managed from the Admin Area, but within Template Compose
- Content Groups may be applied to any template type: print, digital, section style, HTML
- Content Groups work for both Studio view and Form view
- Multiple Content Groups may be applied to any given image slot
- The images must be in the Media Library in order to be added to a Content Group.
- Content Groups prevent End Users from having access to the entire Media Library for an image layer
- Content Groups allow for updating the image choices on many templates at the same time, as the image just needs to be uploaded to the group, not to each template.
Types of Content Groups
There are two types of content groups: Category and Asset ID. Category content groups are applied to an entire Asset Category in the Media Library and Asset ID content groups are filled with individual assets identified by their Asset ID, irrespective of their Asset Category. There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods.
Categories: A specific category or set of Categories is available to the End User
- Advantage: Quick to set up and easy to maintain, as the entire Asset Category is applied to the Group and images may be added or removed from the Group within the Media Library.
- Disadvantage: Less control over the individual images, as every image in the Category is visible (asset-level segmentation still applies)
- Best Used for: General Purpose
Asset IDs: A specific list of asset IDs is available to the End User.
- Advantage: Tight control over the images an End User sees.
- Disadvantage: The Content Group must be edited within a template in the Studio Compose environment.
- Best Used for: Placeholders for End User uploaded image slots or for a very small group of images that are not updated often.
